redesign of
SAMFUNDET
Scope
As a part of the subject “Design and Prototyping of Digital Products”, we were tasked to re-design of the digital platforms of a local city scene, Samfundet. Where you can rent venues for different purposes. We were a group of four interactional design students who worked together on presenting a new design based in color theory, as well as the platform setup, and the information architecture.
For the design process we followed the guide and method “The five elements of UX design”. From our early user insight we saw that two of the main areas we should focus on were the booking system and additional services. We did observations with mainly people in the group 30-50, because these were usually the ages of previous guests. We quickly found the problem areas, and decided to focus on fixing the calender/overview of when different events were happening. The other problem was booking, and adding additional services, and then finnishing the booking from there.
We then went on a inspection of the venue, and spoke to the daily manager. Before we sorted our insight, built a site map, and did guerilla testing.

Tools
For the project most of the ideation and insight took place in Figjam. The prototypes were created in Figma, and some of our elements were set up in Adobe illustrator.

My contribution
I helped out sorting our finds into an affinity diagram, which showed us more specificaly which areas of the platform they strugled with. I then was a part of creating a MoSCoW prioritization matrix, this led us to focus on certain parts of the platform more than others. This also helped us manage our time better since we had to prototype for both desktop and mobile.
When it comes to prototyping i made the menu, as well as the footer. After that i created the calender part the booking, helped out with consitent spacing, before i moved on to create several of the high fidelity desktop frames.
MoSCoW - included all the exhisting sides, but main focus fell on booking, and the additional services you could add to your booking.

*The calender i created, shown on both phone and laptop.
The solution
For the solution, our main focus was to create a booking system that would be easy to understand for the user, but also for the owner. A natural way to include the information about the additional services you can get, and a better presentation of the different rooms. We designed mobile first, therefore, i will be presenting our mobile design and focus on the act of booking.

Here Deborah finds information about the facility.
This adds more information than what has been given to the users earlier.
Deborah chose Storsalen because of the capacity.
She can also see the prices, for different services.
Deborah chooses to book Storsalen, and sets the date she wants.
She fills in her personal information, and the gets a summary of her booking.
She then chooses to add additional services.

Here she gets to check off the services she needs and wants, as well as getting an estimation of the costs.
She then gets to choose a package, one including just decore, one including just tabelware, and one including both.
In the end she is shown a summary of her service choices, and then a confirmation that the service has been added to her booking.

User scenario
We created a user scenario that would go through the whole process of a booking, in the same way that we wanted our users to do during our insight.
Deborah wants to organize a party for her employees, to give back and show how much she and the rest of the management at Byggmax appreciate their staff. She wants to book a memorable and local venue that can accommodate about 170 guests, and has therefore decided to look into Samfundet in Gjøvik. As part of the event, she wants table setting, a three-course dinner, beverage service, decorations, as well as entertainment.
Deborah also wants to give extra recognition to five individuals who have excelled in their dedication and service attitude at Byggmax. Deborah is browsing the website of Samfundet, but quickly ends up in a loop between the booking form and relevant information about the event. She ends up requesting an inspection with Samfundet, to ensure that all the details are correct and that Samfundet's venue is exactly what she is looking for.
The scenario starts at “Våre lokaler” to focus on what we have improved.
